new (and old) kids on the block

Disclaimer: No, I'm not writing about that boy band from the late 1980s nor am I writing about that song by LFO.

Spring is indicative of many things. One of those many things is that prospective freshmen and their family can be seen everywhere on whatever college campus.

It really amazes me how these students come and walk around campus looking as lost as lost can be, sit in on classes, and all that other stuff they do. They invade our libraries, our dining halls, our living spaces, our private spaces, and just everywhere you go, they go. Eager as eager can be and SOOO ready for that whole 4 of the (fill in the blank) years' experience. But be on the lookout, these young folks have so much potential and could end up being the next Nobel Prize winner or dictator.

For whatever reason this also reminds me of the older kids who are in class with us from time to time. I'm talking about that old guy or that lady that sit WAAAY in the front or WAAAY in the back. I think they're really encouraging to current college folk because they are SO on that ball, in that they either have been away from school for whoever knows how long and yet want to jump back again in this academia thing or still trying to finish that degree. They always seemed to be prepared and done all the readings. You gotta give them their props.

All this pondering makes me reflect on my learning experience. We can't take this edumacation thing for granted. Go get it and make something of it.
